Clear cache and delete cookies

When you use a browser like Chrome, some data from websites is stored in cache and cookies. Clearing this data will fix certain problems, such as how websites load or format.

In Chrome

  1. Open Chrome on your computer.
  2. Click the three-dot menu Three-dot menu and then Clear browsing data in the top right corner .
  3. Select a time period, such as Last hour or All time .
  4. Select the types of information you want to remove.
  5. Click Clear Data .

You can learn how to change other cookie settings in Chrome here . For example, you can delete cookies for a specific website.

In other browsers

If you are using Safari, Firefox, or another browser, please visit the appropriate support site for instructions.

What happens after the data is deleted?

After clearing the cache and deleting the cookies:

  • Some website settings will be removed. For example, if you were logged in, you will have to log in again.
  • When you turn on sync in Chrome , stay signed in to the Google Account you're syncing with to erase your data across all your devices.
  • Some websites are slower because content such as images need to reload.

How do cookies and cache work?

  • Cookies are files created by websites you visit. They store browsing data, making the user's browsing experience more convenient.
  • The cache stores parts of web pages, such as images, so that web pages can load more quickly the next time you visit.
